Sustainable travel at Golden Valley House Day Nursery, Nailsea

At Golden Valley House Day Nursery we are committed to improving the high quality childcare that we provide and to, wherever possible, improving the quality of our environment.
We support the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including Good Health and Well-Being, Sustainable Cities and Communities and Climate Action. To achieve this we will encourage our community to develop a sustainable approach to their travel choices, ie reducing journeys to the nursery by car.

The benefits of sustainable travel are:
• Improvements in air quality will have positive impacts on human health
• Reducing vehicle trips to a destination will help to reduce carbon emissions, noise and congestion and improve the air quality
• The global environment will also benefit from reduced carbon emissions, contributing to mitigating climate change
• For society as a whole, walking and cycling also means lower congestion, better air quality, and vibrant, attractive places and communities
• Reduced levels of car parking.

Storage for Bikes, Scooters and Buggies

We have a dry, secure storage facility for bikes scooters and buggies. This is located to the far left of the nursery building. It has secure “Sheffield” stands for you to attach your lock to. We keep some spare combination locks for you to borrow if you forget yours.

Bike Maintenance

We keep a set of tools, some spares and a pump for you to use should your bike develop a problem.

Park and Walk

We promote this as a way of reducing the length of your car journey to nursery by parking en-route and walking the remaining distance. Nailsea has a great combination of:
• car parks and quiet streets to park in
• parks and natural woods to walk through
• a wide network of footpaths leading to the nursery.

This walk will be a great opportunity for your child to experience the outdoors and share experiences and discoveries with you and develop their language.

We have a map on display in the nursery with all of the above highlighted.

Umbrellas

For those walking home from the nursery – when the heavens open we keep a stock of umbrellas for you to borrow.
